The Hague Convention and Apostille

Apostilles are certificates issued in accordance with the Hague Convention to certify the provenance of domestic public documents and ensure they are valid and effective abroad. The process eliminates often complicated, time-consuming, and costly legal procedures. Similar to notarization of a document or signature, apostilles only certify that the signature or stamp reflected on the document was issued by a civil servant in the discharge of his or her official duties. The signature of the individual signing the document must be notarized. However, it is important to note that each registry office adopts its own criteria for determining the authenticity of a given document. The cost of a Hague Apostille varies by issuing state, each of which publishes a price table, but corresponds to that of a Power of Attorney Without a Declared Value.
